Real added value for guests: practical winter tools with Outdooractive

In winter, guests are particularly dependent on tour recommendations and tools, because then the selection of suitable tours is usually more difficult than in summer: which cross-country skiing trails are open, where are the most beautiful toboggan tracks and where the deep snow slopes best suited for a ski tour? And once again it becomes clear that current data is the nuts and bolts, especially in winter. Without it, most tools are worthless and even the safety of users is at risk.

Outdooractive winter map with detailed slope inclination

In order to provide your guests with a particularly comfortable tour planning in the cold season, the winter map contains various winter-specific content on tour detail pages. This includes information on ski areas and mountain railways, slopes and cross-country skiing trails as well as forest and wildlife sanctuaries, which are forbidden to enter in the winter months. In addition, slopes with a gradient of more than 30 degrees are color-coded, which is particularly interesting for assessing the potential danger on tours far away the slopes. The different map levels can be individually adjusted by the user.

Interactive winter sports layer

Since August, the Outdooractive map is based on the latest vector technology, which enables interactive elements. The new winter sports’ layer now displays the status (open or closed) for lifts, downhill runs and cross-country skiing trails. The data is delivered to Outdooractive via interfaces and is therefore always up-to-date. For the outdoor community, this is a innovative digital service that simplifies the planning of the next outdoor adventure. The interactive winter sports’ layer is already available in some regions – more will follow in the future.

Avalanche situation

Up-to-date information on weather and avalanche conditions ensure planning security and thus offers your guests a special added value. Especially in winter, weather conditions are particularly important for outdoor enthusiasts. In alpine locations where the landscape is covered with snow, many tours are only possible if the weather is stable and the danger of avalanches is low. For winter tours on Outdooractive, your guests in the German and Austrian Alps as well as in South Tyrol will always have up-to-date avalanche information at their disposal. The data comes from the official avalanche warning services of the respective region and is updated immediately in the event of a change in conditions.

Weather: Now also mobile and in the app!

On all detail pages (summer and winter) you can see the current weather conditions. Since January, the weather has not only appeared in a new, intuitive design, but also offers even more detailed data. Instead of the usual 3-day preview, the 10-day preview can now be viewed. Information such as temperature, sunshine hours, precipitation and wind strength/direction are clearly displayed. For our weather supplier we have chosen one of the best worldwide: MetGIS. MetGIS combines exact weather models and terrain data to ultra-precise forecasts.
