Milestones

2019

Outdooractive is repeatedly recognized by brand eins in cooperation with Statista as one of the most innovative companies in Germany. With the integration of five new system languages (French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and Hebrew), Outdooractive is on an international growth course. This year, Outdooractive is presenting the "Outdooractive Award" for the first time as part of the Outdooractive Conference. Outdooractive forms the world's largest alliance for joint marketing with all professional partners in the outdoor sector: the Pro Alliance. Outdooractive Business is the new further development of the Outdooractive DMS.

2018

Outdooractive's experts are now sharing their know-how in a workshop format as part of the Outdooractive Academy. Outdooractive CMS turns into DMS (Destination Management System). A simple "content management system" developed into a common platform where all tourism providers collect, manage, edit and disseminate their information. The new subscription model with the three levels Free - Pro - Pro+ is live.

2017

Internationalization proceeds: Outdooractive takes over GEO-Tracks GmbH in Switzerland and founds Outdooractive GmbH Switzerland. In autumn 2017 the new Outdooractive App will be presented – the new generation will set new standards among outdoor apps.

2016

Rebranding: ALPSTEIN Tourismus GmbH & Co. KG becomes Outdooractive GmbH & Co. KG. With that the transformation even manifests in the company’s name.

2015

With the first big Italian customers Trentino and South Tyrol Outdooractive GmbH Italy is founded.

2013

A groundbreaking project was the development of the portal alpenvereinaktiv.com for the three Alpine associations DAV, OeAV and AVS.

2012

Outdooractive receives the German Tourism Award 2012 for the trail-management tool “Defects Detective”. The MILESTONE Tourism Award Switzerland of that year went to Outdooractive as well. In September 2012 the first Outdooractive Conference takes place. Since then it has constantly emerged to one the most influential events for digitization in the tourism sector.

2010

Outdooractive launches the first apps for customers and the first version of the Outdooractive App.

2008

The brand Outdooractive is created and with it outdooractive.com as an independent channel for all contents. This lay the groundwork for the world’s best outdoor platform and the virtual home of an athletic and a nature-loving community. With the continual extension of the portal the customers’ contents receive a great reach.

2006

Launch of the first Content Management System (CMS), the precursor of today’s Outdooractive CMS. This is the basis for all coming Outdooractive products and services and merges the whole content of all partners in one central content database. In order to display the content lodged in the CMS the first Regio – the interactive web portal for B2B customers – is launched. Foundation of the subsidiary in Salzburg to serve the Austrian market on site. The first customer is the Wilder Kaiser region.

2005

ALPSTEIN GmbH is founded with its headquarters in Immenstadt, Allgaeu thus taking the first step in making the vision come true to develop an outdoor platform which links all players in outdoor tourism.

2004

In the Allgaeu a hiking trail network including the signs is drawn up and realized. During the realization of different projects it becomes more and more clear that there is a need for a software with which you can calculate the time for different activities. So not only cartographers and editors joined the team, but also developers to create an internal R&D division.

2003

The product “Nordic-Walking Park” including an overview map, training instructions, trail signs and tour descriptions starts in Oberstaufen. Within 5 years it is sold to over 100 destinations thus increasing the familiarity as strategic partner for tourist infrastructural projects on the market.

2000

After the planning of the “Hornbahn” in Bad Hindelang by the Engineering they also mapped out the corresponding bike park. In addition, they created a mountain-bike map and a mountain bike guide for Bad Hindelang – the first mere tourism project.

1994

Hartmut Wimmer, CEO of Outdooractive, founds his own engineering office thus laying the groundwork for the company Outdooractive of today. The office quickly emerged to a general partner for planning complex construction projects.
