Outdooractive x theCrag
A cooperation for the climbing community and for the destinations that want to reach them
Two of the biggest names in the outdoor and climbing sector are joining up, bringing more content to Outdooractive users, and more web presence to destinations. It’s official: Outdooractive is cooperating with theCrag, the world’s largest climbing and bouldering platform.
The collaboration is planned to greatly expand upon the high-quality climbing content offered across the Outdooractive platform, as well as to help grow a passionate community around the sport. Destination partners will also benefit from the cooperation, receiving additional opportunities to connect with new and highly motivated target groups who frequently travel locally and internationally in search for the best climbing conditions.
“We are delighted about the cooperation and collaboration with a strong partner like theCrag,” said Outdooractive Founder and CEO Hartmut Wimmer. “Such a specialized climbing platform with an impressive data structure will further strengthen our climbing offering and strengthen the connections and synergies between the climbing community and Outdooractive.”
Based in Victoria, Australia, theCrag is the world’s collaborative source for rock climbing and bouldering information. With a grassroots vision and a community-contributed log of 878,600 routes, 8,000 crags, and nearly 2 million ascents worldwide, the platform has been supporting sustainable climbing and a thriving community since 1999. True to their motto, “…by the users, for the users, and freely accessible to everyone,” Outdooractive has agreed that all content automatically carried over from theCrag will remain free to all users.
In addition to an extended offering of alpine climbing routes already present on Outdooractive, the collaboration also will introduce new climbing activities and categories such as bouldering, sport climbing, traditional climbing, etc. With new disciplines and new content integrated and visible to a wide range of potential visitors on Outdooractive, destinations can gain directly from the added web presence facilitated by the cooperation. Risk of potential legal liabilities to destinations are minimal as all content is hosted and maintained between Outdooractive and theCrag.
“We are excited about the possibilities of the cooperation with Outdooractive,” said theCrag Head of Business Development Ulf Fuchslueger. “We see great potential to reach new customer groups as well as to tap in to new sources in terms of content. Both are in the interest of the climbing and outdoor community as well as the destinations and organizations represented on Outdooractive.”
